Who am I and how does the world see me?
As trans, nonbinary and gender expansive people we tend to ask these questions a lot. In a world that often doesn’t make space for us or treats us with hostility how do we define our existence? How do we make space for the full expression of who we are?
Identity series doesn’t promise to answer any of these questions but shows an ongoing process of exploring these themes for myself.
"Hard edges" is a series of works about transitioning out loud. In a world that often shies away from anything that does not fit binary model of gender it can feel tempting to hide the process of transition, especially medical transition away. It can feel messy and complicated, it tends to make cisgender people uncomfortable. But what kind of life is it where you have to hide away parts of self to be palatable? Not the one I want to be living. This series of paintings is an exploration of what it's like to live unapologetically as your true self
A celebration of community and visibility, "Trans Joy" is a series of painting telling a story about parts of transition the media often doesn't show. We are often presented with a narrative of a feeling of wrongness and struggle but that's not all our existence is about. There is so much freedom and authenticity in a trans experience and this series attempt to capture and convey the feelings of it
